Local Attractions and Activities

The Cottage is based in the centre  of Tideswell. Here there are four pubs, all serving good food, as well as cafe's within easy walking distance, serving fresh and flavoursome treats. Tideswell is home to the Tideswell School of Food which is run by the Taste Tideswell project that aims to promote the village as a food destination.Tthey actively support the shops and other businesses in the village and run a fabulous Community-run Kitchen Garden

Our nearest main shopping area is either Bakewell or Buxton although the Cottage is situated within the same square as the Co-op supermarket and near the Tideswell General Store, so is well server for provisions. Tideswell also hosts a butcher’s, bakers and delicatessen, so is well served with amenities.

Bakewell Farmers Market runs once a month on a Saturday, a source of excellent fresh produce from the area and there is a standard market every Monday, making it worth a visit with its wide array of stalls

There is also a small public swimming pool in Bakewell, although in the summer months you may prefer to try the outdoor Hathersage swimming pool.

Tideswell is ideally suited for walkers and cyclists, with a large selection of trails and walks nearby. We are within a short driving distance of attractions like Chatsworth , Haddon Hall , Eyam Hall . The newly opened Monsal Trail cycle route takes you all the way from Bakewell to Blackwell Mill near Buxton, an excellent day out for all the family and can be reached by walking through the lovely Tideswell Dale.

Also quite nearby are Poole's Cavern , Crich Tramway Village and Go Ape , for the more adventurous. We are only a 15 minute drive from Hathersage, the villages of the Dark Peak,  the Pennine Way and within a short walk of the Limestone Way.

Slightly further affield is Sheffield and Chesterfield if more "townly" pursuits are required and a train can be caught from Grindleford or Bamford that will take you across to Manchester. All  make for an excellent day out in their own right.
